Sierra de Gata
In the northwest corner of our province the region of Sierra de Gata rises. It limits the north with the province of Salamanca, west to Portugal (Natural Reserve of the Serra da Malcata) and east with the districts of Las Hurd, Lands Granadilla and Vegas del Alagón and south, with the region of the Earth Alcantara.
It is a territory with diverse landscapes and flora. It has important water resources, with two important aspects: the Arrago river and the river Eljas. Has an important architectural heritage in some of its villas, especially in Gata, San Martin de Trevejo, Torre de Don Miguel, Trevejo, Robledillo de Gata ... Its unique location has made it one of the most pristine places in the Peninsula with regard to nature and authenticity of the forms of rural life. Thus, it is currently one of the areas with the greatest growth potential and for the practice of domestic tourism. Its location favors conditions of humidity and temperature especially conducive to the development of multiple varieties of mushrooms by what is considered an ideal place for lovers of mycology and mushroom picking enclave.
Each village is a jewel of rural architecture with very different accents from high solitude of Trevejo, urbanity stone Madrera and squares of San Martin or the flowery streets of Gata and stately de Hoyos, even the most unique and picturesque architecture Robledillo de Gata. These are the five municipalities named a Cultural Interest with category of Historical Site.
